College View Academy and Helen Hyatt Elementary 2009 Silent Art Auction & Wax Museum

This year we celebrated Helen Hyatt Elementary’s 50th anniversary. In order to keep our school in shape for the next 50 years, staff and parents have begun renovations on the classrooms. The kindergarten room was remodeled in the summer of 2007, and the first grade room the following summer in 2008. Much of the funding for these projects has come from garage sales and local businesses donating products and services.

HHE alumnus Mary Trumble was one of the first students to attend Helen Hyatt when it opened; she probably never dreamed that 50 years later her grandchild would be following in her footsteps! Emma is in first grade and is now benefitting from the hard work and generous donations from dedicated friends of the school, but there is much more to be done.

To that end, we are proud to announce the HHE Silent Art Auction, which will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2009, in the HHE multipurpose room. The auction will feature approximately 200 items from local artists, including our special featured artist, Mr. Jim McClelland.

Items up for bid will include photography works, canvas paintings, painted furniture, pottery, art supplies, professionally decorated cakes, a fully furnished outdoor playhouse, and gift certificates from area restaurants and businesses.007.JPG

The event will also feature special performances by Helen Hyatt’s singing groups and a “wax museum” of students who will play the roles of noted artists, giving brief talks on their artists’ lives and work as you browse the items at auction. The classrooms that have already been renovated will be open for you to see how the work has progressed thus far.

This will be a memorable and rewarding event. Further information and invitations will be coming soon; we hope to see you there! Mark your calendars for October 11, 2009 at Helen Hyatt.

Note: 100% of the proceeds from this event go to classroom renovations; all items have been generously donated by local artists and businesses, and the Silent Art Auction is staffed entirely by volunteers.
